Greek Independence Day and other stuff......

On March 25 Greek Independence Day took place. Among the plethora of celebrations and recognitions that occurred wherever the Greek diaspora were found. And so we had planned similar (although somewhat on a smaller scale) at our end of the woods.

Homemade baklava was made and taken to my school where it was enjoyed by one and all....books on ancient and modern Greece were put out for others to read.....famous Greeks were discussed (my personal favorite Konstantine Karatheodoris - Einstein's teacher and upon whose shoulders Einstein himself said to have stood to achieve his theories [and was distressed that more attention was not given to his teacher])...and of course Greek politics were brought up.

Mention was made of television in Greece, where a good many American shows were playing...as well as the Greek talk shows I love to watch from our Direct TV and Dish hook ups....(in Greece, talk shows last up to 3 hours and often involve putting out cheese, wine, and other drinks for guests - as well as several rounds of dancing!!!) And the political talk shows! Oh my!

And then....and then.... a family crisis occurred....our son called to tell us his wife was in the hospital with a blood clot in her lung. Things changed on a dime then. Late night phone calls everyday occurred....prayers were done...and we all sat on the edge of our chairs. They were given the all-clear to come down to see us this past week (S had a class to take in the DFW area while his wife rested at her parents house) and all seem calm...and then....and then....she had to be rushed to the emergency room because something in her blood had a high count. So more worries and prayers....till she got out and went back to her parents...(her mother is an RN and was able to monitor her closely)....they left this morning...amid much worrying and concern for Chels. May God be with her...

So our celebrations were cut short...later posts will relate some other things about my peeps, as well as news of my DIL.

Yia sas and filakia!
